Onion Soup Beef Burgers

Sometimes, I just crave a burger.

Having been on Weight Watchers for the first 6 months of the year, all I ate was chicken and turkey.  Since I’ve quit Weight Watchers, all I want is beef!

I’ve eaten a few burgers over the past few weeks, and have become quite a fan of just skipping the bun.  Wrapping the burger in bibb lettuce is really tasty and I’ve even ordered a burger at a restaurant where they brought it to me wrapped in iceberg.  Both really hit the spot, and if I’m honest, I didn’t miss the bun at a all… the burger is really about the meet and the toppings (for me, that’s a little ketchup or maybe avocado).  If you haven’t tried lettuce wrapped burgers, I’d recommend it.

Tonight, I wanted a real deal burger.  I also knew that I wanted to keep things pretty healthy… so here’s what I came up (in the absence of lettuce leaves.)  I sautéed some asparagus, and grilled some roma tomato slices, and it really hit the spot!  It also made me want to make a filet with the same bed of veggies.  Soon.

This burger is a totally throwback burger.  My mom used to make these all the time when we were kids.  I’m not sure if this is the exact recipe she used, but it certainly had all of the flavors of childhood I remember…

3.  Season each burger lightly with salt and pepper and cook your burgers in the way you prefer:  grill, skillet, broiler – – the options are endless!  Cook to your preferred temperature.  I cooked mine in a George Foreman grill since my condo complex has outlawed grills recently.  I tend to prefer my burgers a little more well done than most.  It’s your burger – – make it your favorite way!

4.  Serve and enjoy!
